1. When did your fitness journey start? And why did you get into fitness?
Growing up, I was always active and played sports, especially Baseball and Hockey. Fitness was always just inherently part of being involved in these activities. But I would say my journey truly started when I first walked into an MMA gym in my early twenties. Not only did I start to learn the art behind Kick Boxing and Jiu Jitsu, but also the importance of all facets of fitness including strength, conditioning, dynamic movement, and most importantly discipline and consistency.
2. What made you want to become a personal trainer?
Now as I approach my 40’s, I’ve had my own ups and downs along my personal fitness journey. Life, work, family, and stress can all make it tough to stay on track with exercise and nutrition. But over the years, even when I’ve fallen off track, I’ve always found that when I get myself back to a healthy routine, it immediately helps improve all other areas of my life and allows me to have more energy, feel more focused, and just generally feel happier. I want to help others feel better, move better, and have more confidence to tackle life’s everyday challenges.
3. What is your favourite style of workout? Why?
I love strength and conditioning work. Something about moving heavy weights makes me feel like I can do anything. That said, these days I like a more functional approach to strength with an emphasis on mobility and dynamic movement. I also absolutely love a good, hard hitting, metabolic conditioning session. Get that heart rate going and the endorphins flying and I feel like a beast for the rest of the day!
4. What can clients expect from you during a session?
As my client you can expect a genuine coach that will take the time to get to know you and understand what has brought you into Zone 105. I will listen to your needs, wants, goals, and roadblocks, and develop a program that will fit into your lifestyle while working towards the results you’re after. I take pride in outcomes, but also love the journey, and I’ll be there with you every step of the way, providing encouragement, but also helping to hold you accountable to the goals you’ve set for yourself.
5. Why do you think fitness is so important?
It goes without saying that there is a long list of benefits from fitness to our physical and mental health, all of which are incredibly important. Continuing to be active and taking our health seriously improves our quality of life in every way, especially as we age and we want to be engaged with our kids, grandkids, family, or partners. Being fit can also improve our professional life by maintaining energy levels through the workday, keeping us focused and locked in for critical conversations and difficult meetings. All of that said, one of the biggest advantages I’ve found personally, is the confidence you gain to tackle the inevitable challenges life will throw at you. When you choose to do hard things, and intentionally take on challenges in your daily life, this incredible thing happens where you start to believe you can face anything life throws at you and crush it!
