Things to Look for in a Personal Trainer in Edmonton
When looking at our city, there are so many amazing personal trainers in Edmonton. This industry has many great fitness coaches who generally care about their clientele and want to live in a healthier society. That being said, of course there are bad apples like there are in any industry. But you can avoid them if you have an understanding of what to look for in a personal trainer.
The most obvious thing to look for in a personal trainer is a certification. In our industry certifications can be anywhere from a kinesiology degree to a weekend course. Obviously the more educated the better. But from my experience I have seen amazing/horrible coaches come from each background. Our industry is ever evolving and is a very self driven profession. Trainers who possess a passion for learning should thrive. That is why when it comes to choosing a personal trainer I would make sure to look at not only their certification, but also their experience and client testimonials.
You are going to want to have a good rapport with your personal trainer. At Zone we always offer a free training session before you make any financial commitment. You wouldn’t buy a car without test driving it, and it should be the same with a coach. I spend more time with some clients than I do with family, so it makes things a lot easier when you get along. Everyone should offer a free or a discounted session for their trial workout, so you shouldn’t be afraid to try out a couple of different gyms. Find a coach who fits you the best and get working towards your goals!
You are going to want a trainer who is honest and listens. Coaches should be able to sit down with you and discuss a clear, realistic path to your goals. A coach who makes false promises and talks more than asks questions is probably somebody you want to avoid. We are here to find out what you are looking for and put your needs first.
If you have a specific goal, look for a trainer who specializes in that area! Most good coaches have worked with a large variety of clients and have had successes in many different areas of fitness- but we all have our favorite type of clientele. So when you meet with your trainer ask them if they have worked with someone like you in past, what made them successful or not, and what would the trainer have done differently in the past. Don’t be afraid to ask a lot of questions- after all your hard-earned money is going in their pocket.
So when looking for a personal trainer in Edmonton, keep these tips in mind. As mentioned previously there are a lot of amazing people in this industry, and we are so grateful for your support! Without you we wouldn’t be able to do what we love on the daily.
